I eventually identified the problem as being the lack of a display manager on my system. There’s a link to this discussion in the TeamViewer forums. Reading the comments, it seems that the problem was the fact that I start X by simply typing startx.
The last post says to look at the TeamViewer pinned comments in AUR. Finally, I found the following discussion in the Arch Linux forums. Nope! Well, I started searching for a solution. I added the following to /etc/rc.d/rc.local, so it would start upon boot automatically, the rebooted: I made sure that its daemon is executable:

I actually read reports that this does not always work on Slackware either.
